8/10/07 By Bugbears Betrayed?

We entered the cave and discovered two large statues:
one to the Serpent King (whose minions we'd battled
before) and one to the Eagle King (who we assume is
good). Then we found a small recess in cave, above
which loomed a threatening portcullis.

Hugo valiantly plunged forward, exploring the recess.
Once affirmed it was safe, Toobelcain went in and
spotted a secret door at the end. Then disaster!
Arrows began to fly at Don Pacheco as he tried to
disable the portcullis. The secret door opened
revealing 10 bugbears. A mighty battle ensued. We
rolled a lot in the 1 to 8 region and met with limited
success.

Hrolf piled on the buffer spells and transformed into
beastform. Chloroxina asked how many times Hugo would
fall during the battle... Toobelain climbed up the
statue and leaped off to attack the bugbear leader
(thanks to some physics help from Paul)... Hugo
enlarged and slapped down bugbear after bugbear...
Chloroxina became invisible and plunged into the
combat, mouthing off to Hugo about how he should just
make another character to heal him... Hugo rejoined,
"You better hope you never become visible again!"
Hrolf told Toobelcain not to quit his day job because
he was such a lousy actor when struck by an arrow...

The bugbear leader took a potion of gaseous form to
escape, but we followed him through a secret door and
slew him and his shaman helper (which took a
ridiculously long amount of time).

We found 800 GP (plus any of the bugbear gear, which
we detect magic on, Guy...). The lvl 3 characters
earned 1,530 exp, the lvl 4 characters 1,420.
